Teaching Method

The Precision Golf Academy teaching method is based on the legendary instructor Ernest Jones. Ernest Jones was a famous golf instructor who was recently named one of four greatest teachers of all time by Golf Magazine. He was the author of the best selling book Swing the Clubhead. Our teaching method focuses on clubhead motion, not difficult to learn mechanics. At the Precision Golf Academy you’ll learn to play golf by feel. You’ll learn to create a true swinging motion with a golf club, producing maximum distance and accuracy. This method of playing is easy on your body, relaxing and fun. If you’re having trouble with your golf swing, give us a try. Lessons are available for men, women, and children. Beginners and high handicap golfers are welcome!. Lessons are available one-on-one in the privacy of the studio or at Huron Meadows, great public golf course in Brighton with terrific practice facilities. Individual and package rates are available, and we have golf clubs for you to use if you don’t have your own.

“When I first learned this method, I was 17 years old. I took up the game of golf with a friend of mine. I played reasonably well, scoring in the 90’s fairly easily. But I wanted to get better. I wanted to understand the game — why some of my shots felt so easy and went so far, and why at times I didn’t play well at all. I visited a local driving range and happened to meet Arnie Frankel, a PGA Teaching Professional. I asked Arnie if he’d look at my swing. He agreed, and I took a club out of my bag, made a backswing and asked him “should my hands be in this position at the top of the swing, or that”? He told me it didn’t matter what position my hands were in. I was confused, and then asked him what was wrong with my swing, and I never forgot the answer. He said “nothing”. “There is nothing wrong with your swing, because you don’t have one”.

I really didn’t understand what he meant, that I didn’t have a swing, so I asked him, and that began a journey that I’ve been on ever since.
Arnie Frankel, who is a disciple of Ernest Jones, taught me that a swing is a specific type of motion produced with the clubhead. It was not a body part or position. He taught me what swinging was really all about - - how to produce a true swinging motion through a sense of feel and how to recognize when I wasn’t swinging. Under his instruction I improved immediately. Golf became easy and fun, and I became fascinated with this method of teaching.

For the past 25 years I’ve studied with my good friend Arnie Frankel learning to fully understand and teach this method. I’ve studied all of Ernest Jones’ books and I’ve collected over 100 articles written by Ernest Jones or about his teachings. I feel fortunate to have learned this incredible way to play golf and to be able to share it with you.

It’s unfortunate so many instructors make the golf swing over complicated by teaching mechanics and focusing on the many body parts and positions. They teach students how to “fix” what’s wrong with the way they swing, instead of focusing on what to do right. There is nothing wrong with what is right. You cannot learn to swing a golf club by correcting a fault. The best way to learn to play golf is by learning what it means to truly swing a golf club and, how to develop that swing through a sense of feel. When developed it is effortless, powerful, accurate, and most of all, fun. When you learn to use it and trust it, you will fully enjoy the great game of golf, to me the greatest of all games.”
